Anti-Icing Benefits
Which Product Is Best For The Job
Anti-icing is a proactive snow and ice strategy: the application of chemicals before a snow or ice storm to help prevent bonding of ice and snow to the pavement. Anti-icing is not meant to be a cure-all or to negate the need for further deicing treatment as the storm progresses. Rather, it is another tool to be used in the fight and may be accomplished using a variety of chemicals.
Anti-icing has been practiced by agencies for many years using rock salt applied to the road sometime prior to the onset of a storm. The current method of anti-icing is to use a liquid applied to the road before the storm event. The water evaporates and leaves a small amount of salt on the road surface to be activated when the precipitation arrives. The salt residue may last for up to several days depending on traffic levels and weather factors.
